... some time later

So maybe, just maybe, I was a bit premature last year. Clearly, I wasn't actually ready to get back on the blog bandwagon. But ... I persevere. Maybe this year is the year I make my blog comeback.

The motivation to post today? My brand new Devachan haircut. Got it yesterday. Devachan is one of the curly hair meccas in New York City. Here's my experience...

Before: me in the women's room. (Not a great quality pic, but it's from my cell phone.)

Note the frizzy, dry tresses. And the Christmas tree silhouette. NOT attractive.

I'm sure a million curly girls online have already described the royal treatment you get at Devachan. The offer of a beverage, the beautiful environment (I was in the Broome Street salon), the shampoo with a killer scalp massage. I'll add that everybody in the salon - from the front desk on back - was hospitable and friendly.  My stylist (Robert) and assistant (Solange) were both elegant and charming. They offered me a mass of tips about how to style my hair at home. Nobody tried to force me to buy products, but they did educate me about what they were using and why. I left armed with a booklet describing all DevaCurl and DevaCare products, some of which I will undoubtedly purchase soon.

Here's what I looked like when I got home:

Quelle difference! (As Miss Piggy might say.) I feel very French, sort of like Juliette Ormond in Sabrina. Of course, I always wait a day before deciding on whether I love a haircut or not. (Curly hair never looks the same two days in a row.) But my younger son loved it, and when a five-year-old boy specifically compliments you, you know you've hit on something.

Now, here's me today. (Yes, that IS second-day hair!)

LOVE IT! So much that I actually enjoyed posing for pictures. The curls have opened up, but haven't formed that horrible triangle thing. I'm even feeling a little sexy ... the fabu-licious hair motivated me to doll myself up with some lip gloss (something I never do).

So a haircut that makes a frizz-head feel like a hot tamale? That puts a little bounce in my curls and a lot of bounce in my step? I'm definitely a fan. I will be back.
